QEF History

Qatar Equestrian Federation & Modern Pentathlon

Qatar Equestrian Sport has witnessed steady and remarkable progression since it was established in 1979 and continues to make headway on all fronts evidenced by the 2016 Rio Olympic qualification of Qatar National Showjumping Team, a unique feat in the sport history of the nation which was achieved as early as April 2015 .

This was just one of many outstanding achievements and to name just few, the yearly qualification to the Barcelona Nations' Cup Finals plus winning the Longines Challenge Cup in 2015, the yearly qualification of Qatar riders to the FEI Longines World Showjumping events and winning the Gold Medal at 2014 Asian  Games Showjumping team event.

The Qatar Equestrian Federation (QEF) successfully stage annual FEI approved international championships, including 5* championship, HH The Emir of Qatar Sword Championship and five 4*competitions, including a three-leg Sponsored Doha tour.

The same team has gained Olympic Qualification to Rio 2016 QEF, a huge facility that works under the umbrella of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), has over 100 stables which provide accommodation to more than 350 horses. It houses main and indoor arenas plus 3 training arenas, schooling and warm arenas as well a lawn arena. Other facilities, such as a veterinary clinic, a blacksmith shop as well as a swimming pool for horses.

A riding school which now carries the name of Future Rider has been established as a nucleus for nurturing and providing a new generation of riders in and for Qatar. The facility which will work under an international mechanism will provide essential riding lessons to young riders between the ages of 9 to 15 with plans to convert the facility into a riding academy.

There are more than 100 grooms from different nationalities that provide necessary services to both horses and riders. Currently, there are 60 Qatari FEI registered riders for the show jumping discipline and over 100 riders for Endurance which falls under QEF mandate as well the other Olympic disciplines of dressage and eventing.

To efficiently operate the facility on daily basis requires diligent work and inspired leadership which is ensured through constant meetings, contacts and follow up with key staff members as well as soliciting approval for more support and lobbying with potential sponsors. Working with the national and international media is another key task to further promote and market the equestrian sport to the public.

QEF progression has also included its management capacity as witnessed with its remarkable success in staging a three-day international show jumping event outside its perimeters. The third leg of the QNB Doha Tour CSI4* show jumping championship was exclusively staged and organized by Qatari and QEF staff at Katara, a seaside resort in Doha late March 2016.

We at QEF are indebted to the endless and generous support of our wise leadership for all the above achievements while we look forward towards achieving more impressive progress, God willing.
